Osceola County, Florida - The recent rainfall amounts have allowed vegetation to grow and reduce the immediate threat of wildfires. In light of that, the burn ban in Osceola County has been lifted as of today, according to Osceola County Fire Chief Richard Collins and Division of Forestry Supervisor Tom Donohoe.

"Citizens still need to keep vegetation cut back at least 30 feet away from their homes and property to reduce potential hazards from wildfires. Most wildfires occur near the urban interface which is the zone of transition between unoccupied land and human development," stated Chief Collins.

Osceola County Fire Rescue and the Division of Forestry will continue to monitor conditions in accordance with the burn ban ordinance and further bans may be necessary based on the vegetation and drought index.

"The burn ban has been lifted, but there is still a potential for wildfires to occur. Preparation is the key to a successful wildfire season. Residents are asked to be aware of the ground conditions in the area where they are burning and burn only vegetative yard waste," said Collins. "However, residents are encouraged to dispose of all yard waste through their solid waste provider."
